...parted out and trashed :P

El DisneyBox(tm) is now disconnected and part of The Stack, where all the unused hardware goes in order to eventually topple over. :)

...annnnnd, a solution. Seems that the SMC 8216T requires some memory-reserving when used under Windows for Workgroups 3.11...putting EMMExclude=D000-DFFF under [386enh] in system.ini to block out the 64k the NIC itself takes up fixed it.

Yay...scary DisneyBox(tm) is now part of GhettoNet(r)(c). :)

Welp, for some weird-ass reason I'm unable to get any sort of networking to work on the PS/1 with WFW3.11

I'm totally stumped. Computers have unique names, same workgroup, blah blah blah. Can't even ping between systems when tcp/ip's installed and working.

Everything is hooked up okay and set correctly, since I'm able to get sharing/etc working perfectly on the PS/1 -in DOS-...but using WFW3.11's stuff, the computers can't see each other.

I'm officially blaming this on WFW not using/accessing/etc the NIC and/or drivers correctly. :I

HEH, well, I found this system the morning of Monday, Sept 23rd 2000 at the end of the next block over after the old lady there had a yard sale during the weekend and put it out for the trash. I figured 'what the hell' since it was a complete system, and lugged it home :)

All in all, it consists of:

- Main comp...a 486SX 25mhz w/4mb ram(!), 129MB HD, and a 2400 baud internal modem
- Original VGA monitor
- Original keyboard
- Original mouse (only part that didn't work)
- ...and a Disney Sound Source(!!) :P

I wiped it, formatted it with DOS 7.1 from 98SE (with a patch so Win 3.x doesn't whine), replaced the modem with a 33.6 internal, slapping in an SMC (8216) `EtherCard Elite 16' NIC, and installed Win 3.11 along with the Windows for Workgroups 3.11 upgrade version.

It will soon be the 1st box added to what will probably be one of the shittiest networks ever. :P

`What's the point?' you say?

...good question. :)

* IBM's 2133 series PS/1 page (it's the right column one)

* A project using a box from the same series (only difference is a DX33 and HD size) as a firewall :)

IBM INTRODUCES PS/1

The IBM Personal Computer Company and Walt Disney Computer Software
introduced two new models of IBM PS/1 computers preloaded with Disney
software. Each of these new PS/1 computers will contain, in addition to
the preloaded software that comes with the standard PS/1, 11 Disney
software titles, fully integrated into a IBM PS/1 486 25 MHz computer.

As with all IBM PS/1s, each system will come complete with everything
the user needs, including a monitor, mouse and modem. These products
will be available beginning mid-July at approximately 6,000 retail
locations, including department stores, general merchandise stores and
membership clubs throughout the U.S. The estimated price in the U.S. is
expected to be approximately $1699.
