Have an old PC desktop/laptop with USB ports but a BIOS that has *no* (or broken) support for booting from USB flash keys/thumb drives/HDDs/etc? Use this.

I was looking for such a util and thought it was impossible for a while, but then I found PLoP Boot Manager, and now every ancient laptop I've used has been able to boot from their included USB ports!

(Examples: Toshiba Satellite 2595CDT, Compaq Armada 1750, DELL Inspiron 4000, DELL Inspiron 4100, SONY VAIO PCG-NVR23)

This boot manager now gets installed on every single system I use :)

[Update: I'd just like to thank 'TheDragonKeeper' for making the util I wish had existed back when I started ripping PSX stuff, PSXLDR (Large Data Ripper)...not only does it remove all of the tedious Importing in CDMage, it's a -lot- easier to replace STR/XA data in large data files like those in Gran Turismo, Silent Hill, etc, which was pretty much impossible with my method unless you liked doing the math and such for sector counts and injecting blank sectors directly into the image by hand. TheDragonKeeper has a perfect guide for using his utility up at http://pdai.org/~dk/guide/ldrguide.htm (DEAD, archive.org link) (I noticed that the guide links to an older version of the utility (v1.04), but v1.05 exists at http://pdai.org/~dk/psxldr_v105.zip) (DEAD, still at http://emu.makii.pl/psp/psx/psxldr_v105.zip) (Also, if you're not ripping games to use with FPSECE, you can stop with the PocketISO/compressing steps (#16 on) so you can use the resulting image with PC/etc emulators). I'd highly recommend trying this utility first...even I've started using it now and then instead of my method :P]

[Update: Hi to people finding this from the fpsCE page...I finally noticed a referrer and found out why there were so many grabs of this junk lately :P]


(My own creation, not someone else's, but I don't have a more fitting place for it yet :P)

This is a collection of tools and files, along with a tossed-together step-by-step instruction guide, that will let you take your own (blahblahblah, 'Don't Copy That Floppy', etc) Playstation CDs, remove bloated videos/music/etc, and compress them so you can fit multiple games on a CDR or whatever, where you can later just uncompress the CD image you want and play it in an emulator. (aka making 'PSX rips')

(Note that this is -not- the same as rebuilding a multi-game CD from scratch and letting you pick different games to play off a single CD on an actual PSX using a homebrew menu system...it's for making CD images that can be compressed down alot using RAR/etc, mainly for use in ePSXe or VGS)


So basically...


Con: The uncompressed, playable game is the same size as the original CD image, even though alot/all of the unneeded content is gone.

Pro: The cd images compress very well for storage :)


I've not figured out a way to edit the TOC of the CD images to make the unused/'empty' sectors of the CD image point to a single area, thus letting me shrink the image down to a little over the size of the actual, non-blanked-out content (I have some rips made by others that use this technique), but as soon as I do, I'll revamp my current 'method' of making PSX rips. :P

I was looking for a util like this that didn't suck for a while. It basically takes a screenshot of your desktop and can either save it locally or upload it via FTP to wherever you want.
Supports resizing, different detail levels, text on the image, and more...it's what's used for the image on the main page, plus the program actually gets updated now and then :)

A great little text mode shoot-em-up made as a simple demo of the JUDAS sound library... which is probably made better just because of the name :)

(The homepage seems to have a bad link for the Productions page, but the entire JUDAS lib zip is on Maz Sound -or- you can see mirrors of the old page at web.archive.org)
